In this article: What Production Zones are, how item routing works, and how to create a zone.
Production Zones control where items are printed. A zone is assigned to a product, and printers and profiles are then linked to that zone, so orders route to the right zone automatically.
1. How item routing works
Each product can be assigned a Production Zone. When an order is placed, a print job fires to every zone with at least one item in that order. The ticket that prints shows the full order, but items belonging to that zone are bolded and other items appear unbolded, so a station can see the whole order for context while their own items stand out. If a zone has no items in the order at all, no ticket prints for it.
What actually prints, and how, is controlled by the Printer Profile linked to the zone, the profile sets the template, number of copies, and whether printing happens automatically. See Printer profiles for details.
2. Creating a production zone
- Go to Venue Management > Production Zones.
- Click Create Zone.
- Enter the zone Name, for example "Bar" or "Kitchen".
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Identifies the zone. This is what you'll select when assigning a zone to a product, or when setting the zones a Printer Profile handles. |
| Printers Assigned | A read-only list of printers currently linked to this zone through a Printer Profile. Printer assignment is managed from the printer's own screen, not from the zone. |
